Traditionally, Bodeguita existed selling general merchandise, then they were replaced slowly by the chain store, the same way large US chains have practically eliminated the " mom and pop" store.
General stores often sell staple food items such as milk and bread, and various household goods such as hardware and electrical supplies. The concept of the general store is very old, and although some still exist, there are far fewer than there once were, due to urbanization, urban sprawl, and the relatively recent phenomenon of big-box stores. The term "general merchandise store" is also used to describe a hybrid of a department store, with a wide selection of goods, and a discount store, with low prices. Examples include J. C. Penneyand Sears. [ 2 ]

In India, a tapri is a regional version of a general store. It stores all home, personal, medical, and hygienic daily used products. Many Kirana shops sell products other from food, such as clothing or household items, stationery, toys, tools, and medicines. Small Kirna stores, which are generally located on the corner of streets and generally known as katta or tapri, sell cigarettes, tobacco, and tea.

Village shops have become increasingly rare in the densely populated parts of England, although they remain common in remote ruralareas of Scotland, Walesand Northern Irelandalong with some lesser populated areas of England such as North Yorkshire, Northumberlandand The Lake District.
Their rarity in England is due to several factors, such as the rise in car ownership, competition from large chain supermarkets, the rising cost of village properties, and the increasing trend of the wealthy to own holiday homesin picturesque villages, consequently these houses which used to be occupied full-time by potential customers are often vacant for long periods.
Of those villages in England who still have shops, these days they are often a combination of services under one roof to increase the likelihood of profit and survival. Extra services may include a post office, private business services such as tearooms, cafes, and bed and breakfastaccommodation; or state services such as librariesand General Practitioner(GP) or Dental clinics; and charity partners such as Women's Institute(WI) coffee mornings held on the day most elderly villagers might collect their weekly pensions.
Some villages now have neither shop nor post office, but the village pubhas largely survived (although recent economic downturns and changed drinking laws have begun to impact upon and change the survival of even this village stalwart[ original research?]) and these often function as small shops or post offices as well. Many village pubs have become notable dining experiences, attracting trade from their villagers, tourists and nearby town dwellers with their trendy chefs or local produce/organic menus. In village areas close to Towns and Cities with a modern, mixed ethnic picture, out of town dining experiences of an ethnic kind have become popular in former pubpremises. Most notable are large Indian and Chinese restaurants in areas such as Leicestershire, in the English East Midlands.
Community shops have become popular in some villages, often jointly owned and run by many villagers as a co-operative. The Village Retail Services Association ( [1]) promotes the role and function of the village shop in the UK. Many modern village shops choose to stock items which draw in customers from neighbouring areas who are seeking locally sourced, organicand specialist produce such as local cuts of meat, local cheeses, wines etc.
In towns and cities, thecorner shophas largely survived by dominating the local and light night convenience market.
The 1970s saw the death of the traditional grocery shop, which would have once dominated in the kind of buildings most corner shops operate from today, such old traditional family grocery stores began to face competition on two fronts: on the one hand from immigrant-owned corner shops, trading longer hours (typically British Asianfamilies), and on the other from the rise of the supermarket, which amalgamated many specialist retailers such as butchers, bakers, and grocers under one roof at increasingly cheaper prices and with room for a greater choice of products. With the gradual loss of the traditional grocers came the loss of many aspects of old British shopping culture such as grocery deliveries and being enabled to have a "Tic" account with the grocer, a form of unofficial advanced credit. The cornershop is now much more the local convenience shop than the family grocer of days gone by.
Cornershops are usually so called because they are located on the corner plot or street end of a row of terraced housing, often Victorianor Edwardianfactory workers' houses. The doorway into the shop was usually on the corner of the plot to maximise shop floor space within, this also offered two display windows onto two opposing streets. Many have now altered the original shop front layout in favour of a mini-supermarket style. Although it is common that cornershops found in the UKwere former grocer shops, other specialist retailers also occupied such slots and have suffered the same fate of being largely replaced by super and hypermarkets, such retailers as greengrocers, bakers, butchersand fishmongers.
In popular culture
Many British TVand Radioseries, especially soap operas, feature corner shops or village shops as cornerstones for community gatherings and happenings. Prominent examples are the Village shop in Ambridge, the fictional village in the BBC Radio 4series, The Archers, (1950–present day). Or the ITV1soap opera Coronation Street(1960–present day) featuring a cornershop; it was owned, until recently, by Alf Robertsthe grocer and after his death in the late 1990s was bought by Dev Alahan, reflecting this common change in British culture. The dying days and changing culture of the traditional British grocer was explored to great effect in the BBCTV comedy series Open All Hours(1976–1985), set in the real suburb of Balbyin Doncaster, the shop front used for the street scenes in the series does actually exist in the area and is a hair salon in reality. The BBC Scotlandcomedy series Still Gamehas a corner shop as a recurring location where characters can meet and gossip; the actor who plays its owner, Navid Harris ( Sanjeev Kohli), plays a similar role as Ramesh in the Radio 4 comedy series Fags, Mags and Bagswhich is set entirely in Ramesh's shop.
The band Cornershopin part base their image on the perception that many convenience stores are now owned by British Asian people. In terms of British popular culture these media representations give some idea of the importance attached to local shops in the national psyche and as a mainstay of community life.

During the first half of the 20th century, general stores were displaced in many areas of the United Statesby many different types of specialized retailers. But from the 1960s through present, many small specialized retailers are in turn crushed by the so-called " category killers", which are "big-box" wholesale-type retailers large enough to carry the majority of best-selling goods in a specific category like sporting goodsor office supplies.
However, the convenience inherent in the general store has been revived in the form of the modern convenience storeand the hypermarket, which can be seen as taking the general store or convenience store concept to its largest possible implementation.

Chitaurgarh( Hindi:चित्तौड़गढ़) pronunciation} (alsoChittor,Chittaur, orChitorgarh) is a city and a municipality in Rajasthanstate of western India. It lies on the Berach River, a tributary of the Banas, and is the administrative headquarters of Chittorgharh Districtand a former capital of the SisodiaDynasty of Mewar. The city of Chittaurgarh is located on the banks of river Gambhiri and Berach. The district was bifurcated and a new district namely Pratap Garh was created with certain portion taken from Udaipur district in the newly created district of Pratap Garh.
Fiercely independent, the fort of Chittor was under siege thrice and each time they fought bravely and thrice Jauharwas committed by the ladies and children, first led by Rani Padmini, and later by Rani Karnavati. The famous warriors Gora and Badal, in the war against Allaudin Khalji (1303 AD), have become legendary. The sacrifice of Jaimal and Patta in the war against the Mughals (1568 AD) was so great that the Mughal Emperor Akbar installed their statues in the fort of Agra. It has also been land of worship for Meera. [ 1 ]Chittorgarh is home to the Chittorgarh Fort, the largest fort in India.

Chittorgarh is the epitome of Chattari Rajput(a Hindu Kshatriya (Warrior) caste) pride, romance and spirit, for people of Chittor always chose death before surrendering against anyone. It reverberates with history of heroism and sacrifice that is evident from the tales still sung by the bards of Rajasthan. Though it can now be called a ruined citadel there is much more to this huge fort. It is a symbol of all that was brave, true and noble in the glorious Rajput tradition.

Historically, it is considered that Chittor was built by the Mauryadynasty. Mauryan rule ended in 271 B.C.as a dominant power in India (Keay 2000 p 104).[ citation needed]It was then namedChitrakutafter Chitrangada Mori, a Rajput chieftain as inscribed on ancient Mewari coins. The fort is surrounded by a circular wall which has seven huge gates before one can enter the main fort area. Some accounts say that the Moridynasty was in possession of the fort when Bappa Rawalthe founder of the kingdom of MewarseizedChittor garh(Chittor fort) and made it his capital in 734 AD. Some other accounts say Bappa Rawal received it as a part of the dowry after marriage with the last Solanki princess. After that date his descendants ruled Mewar, which stretched from Gujarat to Ajmer, until the 16th century. Chittor was one of the most contested seats of power in India with probably some of the most glorious battles being fought over its possession. It is famous in the annals of the Mewar Dynasty as its first capital (prior to this, the Guhilots, forerunners of the Mewar Dynasty, ruled from Idar, Bhomat, and Nagda), and renowned in India's long struggle for freedom. By tradition, it remained the Mewar capital for 834 years. With only brief interruptions, the fort has always remained in possession of the Sisodias of the Guhilot (or Gehlot/Guhila) clan of Rajputs, who descended from Bappa Rawal.
The first attack was by Alauddin Khilji in 1303 AD, who was enamoured by the beauty of Padmini of which he had only heard. Rani Padmini preferred death to abduction and dishonour and committed jauhar (an act of self-immolation by leaping into a large fire) along with all the other ladies of the fort. [ 1 ]All the men left the fort in saffron robes to fight the enemy unto death. Chittorgarh was captured in 1303 AD by Ala ud din Khilji, Sultan of Delhiwho led a huge army. Elderly people then had the responsibility to raise the children. It was recaptured in 1326 by the young Hammir Singh, a scion of the same Gehlotclan. The dynasty (and clan) fathered by him came to be known by the name Sisodiaafter the village where he was born.
Rana Kumbha(1433–68) was a versatile man, a brilliant poet, and musician. He built Mewar up to a position of unassailable military strength, building a chain of thirty forts that girdled the kingdom. But, perhaps more important Rana Kumbha was a patron of the arts to rival Lorenzo de' Medici, and he made Chittorgarh a dazzling cultural center whose fame spread across Hindustan.
By the 16th century, Mewar had become the leading Rajput state. Rana Sangaof Mewar led the combined Rajput forces against the Mughalemperor Baburin 1527, but was defeated at the Battle of Khanua. Later in 1535 Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat, besieged the fort, causing immense carnage. It is said that again, as in the case of Jauhar led by Padmini in 1303, all 32,000 men then living in the fort donned the saffron robes of martyrdom and rode out to face certain death in the war, and their women folk committed Jauhar led by Rani Karnawati. The ultimate sacrifice for freedom, Jauhar was again performed for the third time after the Mughal Emperor Akbarcaptured Chittorgarh in 1568. Then, the capital was moved west to Udaipur, in the foothills of the Aravalli Range, where Rana Udai Singh II(the young heir apparent) had established a residence in 1559. Udaipur remained the capital of Mewaruntil it acceded to the union of Indiain 1947, and Chittorgarh gradually lost its political importance.
Bhumiharsalong with others, in some places,[58] were also involved in anti-Muslim communal violence during the 1893 Anti-Muslim riots,[59] and during the Partition of India.[58]
Chittorgarh is also associated with two very widely known historical figures of India. The first, Meera Bai, is the most famous female Hindu spiritual poetess, whose compositions are still popular throughout North India. Her poems follow the Bhaktitradition and she is considered to be most passionate worshipper of lord Krishna. Folklore says that her love for Krishna was epitomized by her final disappearance in the temple of Krishna in Dwarka. She is believed to have entered the sanctum of the temple in a state of singing ecstasy after which the sanctum doors are believed to have closed on their own. When the were opened, later, the sari of Mirabai was seen enwrapped around the idol of Lord Krishna, symbolizing the culmination of her union with her Lord.
The great Maharana Pratap, son of Rana Udai Singh II, is regarded as a personification of the values Rajputscherish and die for. He took an oath to spend his life living in the jungles and fighting until he could realize his dream of reconquering Chittorgarh from Akbar (and thus reclaiming the glory of Mewar). It was the dream greatly cherished by Maharana Pratap, and he spent all his life to achieve this goal. He underwent hardships and a life of eating breads made of grass while fighting his lifelong battle. Maharana Pratap is the greatest hero in the eyes of the Rajputs of Mewar. In the absolute dark era of Rajput history, Maharana Pratap alone stood firmly for his honour and dignity, never compromising his honour for safety. With the reputation of a brave man of great character even among his enemies, he died free in 1597.
Chittorgarh remains replete with historic associations and holds a very special place in the hearts of Rajputs, as it was a bastion of the clan at a time when every other stronghold had succumbed to invasion. It is often called as the " Bhaktiaur Shaktiki nagari" (land of devotion and strength). The fort and the city of Chittorgarh also hosts the biggest Rajputfestival "Jauhar Mela". It takes place annually on the anniversary of one of the jauhars, not the one by Padmini which is most famous. This festival is to commemorate the bravery of Rajput ancestors and all three Jauhars which happened at Chittorgarh. A huge number of Rajputs which include the descendants of most of the princely families do a procession to celebrate the Jauhar. The fort at Chittorgarh also contains the ancient and beautiful temple to Goddess Kali called the Kalika Mata Temple.

Bhilwara is located at 25°21′N 74°38′E / 25.35°N 74.63°E. [ 2 ]It has an average elevation of 421 metres (1381 feet). It falls between the districts of Ajmer (in north) and Chittorgarh and Udaipur (in south). Major rivers flowing through the district are Banas, Bedach, Kothari, Khari, Mansi, Menali, Chandrabhaga and Nagdi.
There is no natural lake in the district but there are number of ponds and dams so the district is the most irrigated in the state of Rajasthan.

As of 2011India census, [ 5 ]Bhilwara has a population of 2,410,459. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. 14.78 of the population is under 6 years of age. [ 6 ]If we talk about city population of Bhilwara it is 370,009 as per 2013.
Economy
The major industry is textiles, with more than 400 manufacturing units in the town. The main textile product is synthetic fabric used in trousers. It began with a spinning and knitting company named Mewar Textile Mills, owned by industrialist Shri Sampatmal Lodha, started in 1938. Thereafter Shri Laxmi niwas Jhunjhunwala started his first unit for synthetic textile in 1961 at Bhilwara. Then many other units came up.
Now the city boasts of producing around a billion meters p.a. of trouser fabric, making Bhilwara one of the major textile centres in India. The turnover of the textile industry is more than Rs. 10,000 crore p.a. The city has nine major and five small spinning mills. The total spindlage installed at Bhilwara are approximately 4.50 lacs, about 40% of the state capacity. It has 18 modern process houses to process polyester/viscose suiting with the annual capacity of a billion meters of fabric. In the weaving sector it has approximately 13,500 looms out of which about 9000 are modern shuttleless ones. Annual exports of textiles from the district is of more than Rs. 2750 crore.
Bhilwara is the only center in the country producinginsulation bricks. There are about 33 units in city. In the mining sector there is large scale mining of sandstone, soap stone and other minerals like feldspar, quartz, China clay, etc.
Also Mica mining has played a very important role in development of economic and social condition of Bhilwara. Late Sh. Jugal Kishore Ji Sharaf and Lt Sh Chetan Sharaf has played a major role in developing the then crucial minrel.

Bhilwara receives electricity from Kota, Beawar, Rana Pratap Sagar Power Station (Rawatbhata) and Nimbahera. All 1,565 villages have been electrified.
Water
The main rivers in the district are Banas, Beduch, Kothari, Khari, Menaali, Unli and Meja dam (10 km from center). The water table is comparatively high between 10 to 20 meters. The district has about 86,600 wells and thousands of tube-wells, providing drinking water and irrigation facilities. Ground water is fresh and generally considered as potable although the concentration in fluoride was regularly above normal and can cause fluorosis[ disambiguation needed]. Since 2001, Bhilwara city receives water from the Kota-Chambal River.
Road connectivity
National Highway No. 79, part of the Golden Quardrilateral (four lane), and another National Highway No. 76 part of the East West Corridor (four lane) pass through the district. The total length of both section is 120 km.
National Highway No. 758 (Kota-Ladpura-Bhilwara-Gangapur-Rajsamand-Udaipur) passes through the district. The length of this highway is 146 km. and other NH 148D (Bhim-Gulabpura-Uniara).
The total road length in the district was 3,883 km on 31 March 2000.
With a government bus depot in the heart of the city, Bhilwara is connected to all the important cities of Rajasthan and other states. Many private service providers are available.
Rail transport
A broad gaugerailway line connecting Ajmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Kota, Indore Junction, Ujjain, Delhi, Bharatpur, Agra, Gwalior, Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Patna, Kolkata, Chittorgarh, Udaipur City, Mavli Jn., Ratlam, Vadodara, Surat, Mumbai and Hyderabad passes through the district. Kota (160 km) is the convenient railway station to provide connectivity to the southern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Air transport
The nearest airport is at Udaipur(165 km) — approximately 2.5 hours, by road. The other nearest airport is at Jaipur(251 km) which takes about 4 hours by road. The nearest international airports are in Jaipur, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.

Manikya Lal Verma Govt. Textile & Engineering College, Bhilwara is an autonomous engineering college of Government of Rajasthan. Along with offering engineering course in multiple disciplines of engineering, it is the only institute in Rajasthan which offers engineering course in textile and its allied fields. Institute of Technology and Management is the another engineering college in Bhilwara.

*.Art: Great Indian miniature artist Badri Lal Chitrakarhighlights the city on international maps for Indian miniature art. He was given the Shilp Guruaward by the vice-president of India on 9 September 2006.
*.Bhilwara is famous for its 'Fad Paintings' which are depictions of traditional stories on cloth using naturally available colours.
*.Sports: Bhilwara is the source of national basketballteam players. Coach Mohit Bhandari is the national coach for basketball. Bhilwara has many other state- and national-level players, some of them being Shanker Lal Gattani, Mahipal Solanki (basketball). Several other sports personalities hailing from the city include Aditya mansinghka & Varun Mansinghka (tennis), Anirudh Singh (rowing) and Viraj Dhuri (weightlifting) who are some of the recognizable faces of the modern day sports and athletics scene.

Bhilwara has large number of hospitals. Mahatma Gandhi hospital is one of the biggest in the Mewar region. Ram Snehi Hospital is among major medical service providers which include Smt. Kesar Bai Soni Hospital Assisted by Apollo Hospital Ahmedabad, Arihant Eye Hospital, Red crescent Uro-Surgical Hospital, Krishna Hospital,Ajmera eye & gynice (specialist)Hospital and many more. Recently Bhilwara has emerged as an attraction for orthopaedic surgeriesas well.

*.Badnore Fortis 70 km from Bhilwara on the Bhilwara Asind road.
*.Pur Udan Chatri is about 10 km from Bhilwara city. It is famous for Udan Chatri, Adhar Sheela Mahadev where a huge rock is resting on a small one.
*.Kyara ke Balajihas a natural image of Lord Hanuman. It is said that the image spontaneously appeared on the rock. Patola Mahadev Temple,Ghata Rani Temple, Beeda ke Mataji Temple and Neelkanth Mahadev Temple are nearby attractions situated on the beautiful hills of the Aravali mountain range.
*.The Bhilwara Municipal corporation is developing a tourist place at Gata Rani Mandir.
*.The Madhav Gou Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra (Madhav Cow Science Research Centre), Village Gaadarmala(Pur) is a very popular Gousala.
*.Mandal is around 16 km from Bhilwara city; it has the Battis Khambon ki Chhatri. As the name implies, this is a handsome chhatri made of sandstone with 32 pillars. Some of them have beautiful carving at the base and the upper portion. Within this chatri a huge Shivling is situated.
*.Harni Mahadev: Founded by the ancestors of the Darak family, a Shivlinglies under the mountain, built into a Shiva temple is 8 km from the city. It got the name Harni on the name of village near it, a nice place for people from the city for outing as it has hills around. On the occasion of Shiv Ratria three-day fair is held here. Near this Chamunda mata Mandir is a hill from where one can have a view of whole city. Dadi dham temple is also there on the way.
