I look at Blogger and WordPress as the difference between a microwave and the oven. You can get by just fine microwaving food but if you ever want to make Thanksgiving dinner, you’ll have to learn to use the oven at some point. Blogger is a blogging platform for people who don’t want to focus a ton of time on the technical side of their blog. (I happily fell into this group a year ago.) You want to create your blog, post your posts and move on. But even if you’re not a technical wiz or willing to put money into your blog just yet, there are ways to make your Blogger blog look more attractive to readers: Get rid of the Blogger navbar. That’s the thing the sits across the top of your blog that lets people search other blogger blogs. That’s great. . . for Blogger. Not you. It’s distracting from the main star here: your writing. You can either turn it off in the settings or insert a short html code into your template to remove it. Here’sa good place to start. And 86 the Blogger favicon while you’re at it.The favicon is the little icon that appears in the browser tab when you open your blog. If someone saves your blog as a favorite, it appears as the symbol for it. Again, I have nothing against the Blogger B. But when I see it, I think of the Blogger brand instead of your awesome blog. To change favicon, go to this siteto upload your image and grab the HTML code. Insert that code in our blog template header section. Check out thisif you have questions. Unless your blog is about Blogger, BlogSpot should not appear in your blog’s domain.Blogger allows you use a personalize domain name for no charge on their site. (And they’ll redirect all traffic from your BlogSpot domain to new domain automatically.) A domain will cost you less than $10 buck a year and if you already have a website, you can change your blog’s URL to blog.mysite.com for no additional cost. Don’t let your blog look just like every other one that Blogger publishes. My favorite thing about moving to WordPress was the template option. There are so many of them and eventually I plan on paying somebody to create a completely personalized one for me. Blogger has a few template options too, but there are far less of them. However, Blogger now has a template designeroption that lets you play around with a template’s coding without knowing any coding. You can make your blog unique without doing much more than changing the settings. Get serious about your comments.Blogger’s default commenting system is really basic and tries to force the reader into signing into their Google account to comment. The more you limit the ways people can comment on your blog, the less likely they will. You can allow commenting with the name and URL or anonymous commenting through the Blogger settings page. If you’re up for a few extra steps, try installing Disqusor Intense Debatecommenting systems. It’s free and pretty easy if you follow their step by step instructions. So what did I forget?
